Designed for use in applications where loosening forces such as vibration are present. The serrations will grip to a bearing surface that is at least 15-20 Rockwell points softer than the fastener. This results in more torque needed to loosen than tighten the screw. The flange provides more strength than a standard machine screw; it eliminates the need for a lock washer or locknut in some applications.
